TELARUS INVESTS A FURTHER $300K IN FORTINET INFRASTRUCTURE TO SECURE ITS PRIVATE CLOUD COMPUTING SOLUTIONS

Region’s first Fortinet MSSP partner and newly achieved Gold status

SYDNEY, Aust. – 4 August, 2010 – Telarus, the leading provider of private cloud computing solutions in Australia and New Zealand, today announced a AUD$300,000 investment commitment with Fortinet (Nasdaq: FTNT), a market leader in unified threat management (UTM).

Telarus is the first company in Australia and New Zealand to acquire the new FortiGate-3950B UTM platform, and the first in the Asia Pacific region to acquire a FortiGate-3951B, which includes WAN optimisation capabilities. The new appliance from Fortinet is able to switch up to 100Gb/s and will handle up to 10 million concurrent sessions. Being a true UTM platform, it is also rich in capabilities such as SSL and IPSec VPN termination, anti-virus and IPS (Intrusion Prevention System).

This commitment further cements the strategic relationship Telarus has with Fortinet with Telarus now having been appointed as a Fortinet Gold Partner and the first Fortinet MSSP partner in the Asia Pacific region. Aside from significant infrastructure investments, to achieve this status Telarus has ensured that all of its Network Operations and Network Engineering staff are Fortinet certified. This ensures that Telarus is able to confidently deliver Fortinet based security solutions to SME and Enterprise customers and that they will receive industry leading support.

The FortiGate-3951B UTM appliance is equipped with purpose-built FortiASIC processors to accelerate compute intensive tasks. Telarus will leverage this to deliver lightning-fast performance for up to 250 customers per chassis, each within their own Virtual Domain (VDOM), despite enabling a wide array of demanding features.

Mr Jules Rumsey, CEO of Telarus, said that its Telarus Managed Firewall service, based on the FortiGate 3951B, will provide customers with Enterprise grade security and performance at an SME price point.

“Telarus Managed Firewall sits at the core of our Private Cloud Computing Platform. As such, we need an extremely secure, highly scalable and very robust platform. We have been using Fortinet products since first releasing our Managed Firewall product around five years ago as they are head and shoulders above the competition. The new Fortigate 3951B platform will allow us to cater for the massive uptake we are seeing with our Managed Firewall service due to strong demand for private cloud computing solutions. It will also enable us to roll out a number of new features such as WAN optimisation that are strategically important when delivering such solutions,” he said.

“Leveraging our partnership with Fortinet, Telarus is making it possible for SME and Enterprise businesses in Australia and New Zealand to realise the efficiencies, cost savings and speed of change possible with cloud computing without compromising on security. Coupled with the fact that we operate our own trans-Tasman MPLS network, this is what makes a cloud computing solution from Telarus truly ‘private’ and enables us to deliver consistently high performance and availability.”

Rumsey said that integrated features within the FortiGate-3951B appliance such as WAN optimisation are strategically important as customers progressively outsource the hosting of their core systems.

“The ability to accelerate the delivery of content such as files and emails, potentially up to gigabit speeds even when using relatively low-cost ADSL or SHDSL services, will help fuel rapid uptake of cloud computing solutions. In many cases customers will see better performance with their servers sitting ‘in the cloud’ than they did when they were in their office.”

Kevin Dyson, Fortinet general manager for South Pacific said, "We are very pleased to see Telarus achieve both FortiPartner Gold and FortiPartner MSSP status.  As a highly valued partner, we look forward to working with Telarus to further enhance the industry-leading solutions they offer to SME and Enterprise customers in Australia and New Zealand. Telarus’ strategic focus in delivering true ‘private’ cloud computing solutions is setting them apart from competitors, and Fortinet solutions are playing a key role.”
