We have a long-standing relationship with Cisco Systems and are working closely with them to upgrade the Telarus network to a Next Generation Network (NGN) architecture, which will deliver even greater network intelligence, integration and flexibility to support a wide variety of services. Importantly, these changes will deliver exceptional scalability while maintaining a high level of fault tolerance. BT, AT&T, Verizon, France Telecom and Telecom Italia have already partnered with Cisco to deploy similar architecture, so we are in good company.
Telarus already uses MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) throughout the network enabling the delivery of high performance, very scalable national VPNs, robust fault tolerance and the foundation for advanced traffic engineering and Quality of Service features.
The upgrade will deliver a state of the art network that is particularly well suited to multi-service applications – it will offer significant scalability whilst carrying a mix of traffic types such as voice, data and video. Once the upgrade is complete, we will be able to deploy services more quickly, will have access to enhanced reporting and network intelligence and will have substantially more capacity for growth. We will also have the control and performance required to support the most demanding of applications across a wide range of access technologies up to and including Ethernet at a Gigabit per second.
