Coming soon: Wireless Audit and Design Service

These days, organisations of all sizes are rapidly adopting wireless network technologies.

In fact, researcher IDC recently reported that 25 percent of organisations in Australia currently own and operate a wireless LAN environment and that number is growing.

Poorly designed wireless networks may result in variable performance and blackspots in coverage. And, if wireless networks are not properly secured they can create a big security risk.

No two wireless networks are the same and every customer has a different need when it comes to designing the network, locking it down and gaining the best performance.

Telarus will soon release a wireless audit and design service that gives business customers peace of mind knowing that their wireless networks are secure and performing well.

A range of packages will be offered. Fixed prices will be available for smaller sites while jobs for larger customers will be quoted.

Telarus utilises two pieces of software during the audit. A spectrum analyser allows us to look for sources of interference such as DECT phones, Bluetooth devices and microwaves and a site audit package allows us to “map out” what wireless coverage looks like visually and determine the strength of an existing wireless network.

The site audit software can be configured to take into account partition walls, pieces of furniture or external brick walls in the area, analysing how these objects will affect the wireless signal. Using the software’s “predictive mode” Telarus can look at how various placements of wireless access points might work in practice.

Keep an eye out for this service, which will be available soon.

Disaster Recovery

Having a disaster recovery plan in place in order to avoid or limit the potential for a disaster to affect day to day operations is crucial for any business that is reliant on its IT&T infrastructure.

If your IT systems, data network and voice services are critical to the operation of your business, any disruption will impact profitability and, depending upon the severity of such a disruption, may be catastrophic. At the very least, basic disaster recovery planning is essential, much like business insurance.

Telarus has provided solutions for many customers that offer redundancy or fault tolerance to support their disaster recovery plans.

As an example, many customers have a Telarus Premium DSL service (Optus DSL) as their primary service with a Telarus Business service (Telstra DSL) as a standby service. Telarus can also provide standby services via dialup PSTN or ISDN (up to 128Kb/s) where appropriate.

Other Telarus service such as Co-Location (housing servers in a secure Telarus data centre) or Managed Firewall (centralised managed firewall adjacent to the core of the Telarus network) may also form integral components of your disaster recovery plan.

Please take time to review your disaster recovery plan and speak to your Telarus Solutions Engineer or Account Executive if you would like Telarus to work with you to design a solution that will provide the protection you need.
