Jane Bleackley

What is your role at Telarus?

I am the Credit Controller.

What are your key responsibilities?

Process payments from customers; keep accurate records of customer details in the accounting package; communicate with customers regarding their accounts; ensure information in the accounts is correct to enable customers to receive correct invoices; send out timely reminders of payments due and produce accounts receivable records for the managers.

How long have you been in the IT industry?

Seven years.

What have been the highlights of your career?

I do not have one particular highlight.  I have many. Beginning work for Telarus would rate at the top of the list.  Previously to working for Telarus, I was employed in a similar position for a two way radio company in Melbourne. I have worked for Telarus for a number of years and recently I needed to move back to New Zealand to care for my elderly mother and educate my son at a College in my home town of Wanganui.

This did not prove to be a problem as the team at Telarus have set me up with all the technology needed and I work from an office in my mother's house in New Zealand.  I am totally in contact with the team and all customers and no one would know that I am not physically in Melbourne.

What challenges have you faced in your career? How did you overcome them?

My biggest challenge was keeping up with technology.  I have needed to learn a great deal regarding the IT industry. As IT is the way the world is heading, it is vital to learn every day. Working with the crew at Telarus enables me to learn new processes all the time.

When I am unable to converse with customers on a technical level, another member of the team is able to do so.

Which technology is going to have the biggest impact on the industry over the next five years?

Whilst I am not technological, it would seem that Voice-over-IP is the upcoming technology.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am a complete and utter sports fanatic with my passion being cricket. Of course, being a Kiwi means that I can gloat about the Kiwis winning three one day games against Australia. Not only did they win, they did it with style. My other interests involve my four children, two granddaughters in Melbourne, one grandchild about to be born in Perth and one is going to be born in New Zealand in a few months.
