Telarus delivers cost-effective mobility
Rewarding our Customers, the Telarus way…
The Telarus Referral Reward Program ran for most of 2008, where we offered
rewards of up to $20,000 in vouchers for new customers that were referred
to us. Given the success of this program, we have decided to keep it
running in 2009.
All you need to do to participate is to refer opportunities worth $500
Ex-GST per month or more to your Account Executive – we’ll
take it from there. If an opportunity leads to a sale we’ll reward
you with a generous supply of shopping vouchers - and there is no limit
to the number of referrals you can make.

Expansion into New Zealand
In September 2008, Telarus signalled its expansion into New Zealand,
signing a wholesale agreement with Telecom New Zealand that has enabled
us to productise offerings based on a range of services in New Zealand,
including fixed line voice, ADSL, SHDSL and Ethernet services.
Telarus has also partnered with Citylink in New Zealand, providing us
with aggressively priced Ethernet services in a number of CBD/Metro areas
as well as the option of dark fibre if this is required. In fact, Telarus
has used Citylink dark fibre to interconnect with Telecom to cater for
the significant amount of capacity we will require to service our customers.
On the strength of these agreements Telarus expanded its MPLS backbone
into New Zealand in November 2008 and is now able to offer national coverage
with a wide range of access services to cater for both Internet and VPN
connectivity requirements.
In order to ensure that we can offer customers seamless network solutions
across Australia and New Zealand, Telarus has committed to a sizeable
amount of fibre capacity between Australia and New Zealand with Vocus,
a major wholesale only carrier in Australia. This is highly fault tolerant,
dedicated capacity that is ideal for demanding applications such as Terminal
Services, Citrix, VoIP and Video Conferencing.
Due to the amount of capacity Telarus has committed to we are able to
offer trans-Tasman connectivity at a fraction of the price that has been
available in the market to date, typically only from the major carriers.
As such, we are finding that many clients are migrating away from using
IPSec over the Internet towards dedicated capacity that is better suited
to their needs. And in a lot of cases, this is actually proving to be
cheaper than paying for Internet connectivity in each country.

New Staff and Promotions
Despite the recent economic downturn, Telarus is showing strong growth.
We have expanded into New Zealand and have a number of major product
releases in the pipeline. As such, we are continuing to recruit key staff
to assist us with our growth as we move towards FY2010.
NOC Team
The latter half of 2008 brought with it a few challenges in terms of
staffing in our NOC, however I’m very pleased to say that the NOC
Team is now stronger than ever. Thank you for your patience whilst we
have effected these changes. You will be pleased to know that we’re
still working hard to make it even better.
Towards the end of 2008, Robert Grace was appointed to the role of Network
Operations Manager on a temporary basis with a charter of filling some
vacancies in the NOC Team and ensuring that the NOC was delivering the
service levels we require. Robert had previously held the role of NOC
Team Leader and was thus very familiar with the operation of the NOC.
He did an excellent job by all reports. Within a matter of a few short
months Robert had achieved his charter and, in doing so, delivered a
marked improvement in performance.
In April 2009, Steve Dark was appointed to the role of Customer Operations
Manager, with responsibility for the Customer Service Team and the NOC
Team. This enabled Robert to focus his attentions again on Network Engineering
matters and signalled a further period of evolution for our operations
teams. Steve has many years of experience in operations and is putting
in place additional processes and systems that will assist us to scale
as we go through a significant period of growth.
During this period Anand Sriram joined the team as a NOC Analyst, after
working in an operations role at Telstra. We are also very pleased to
welcome back Walid El Souki as Senior NOC Analyst, who decided to rejoin
the team after a short stint at Uecomm. Like Robert, Walid had previously
held the role of NOC Team Leader, is very capable and highly customer
focused.
The newest member of the NOC, joining the team as a NOC Analyst in
February 2009, is Mazen El Souki. Technically savvy and with some excellent
customer service experience behind him, Mazen is quickly making his mark
within the team.
Engineering Team
To assist with the ongoing growth of Telarus, our expansion into New
Zealand and the release of our Virtual Hosting Platform, we have recruited
Raman Biaroza into the role of Engineering Team Leader.
Having recently moved to Australia from Belarus, Raman has a broad range
of technical, project management and staff management skills. He has managed
sizeable teams, working on a number of major IT implementation projects
for the #1 mobile carrier in Belarus, and is already proving to be an asset
at Telarus.
Customer Service Team
Joining the Telarus family in the later part of 2008 was Jaggi Singh,
Customer Service Representative. Jaggi joined us on the strength of some
recent awards from his previous employer. He has progressed quickly since
joining the team and is working hard to ensure that we offer timely provisioning
and excellent customer service.
Sales Team
There have also been a few changes in the Sales Team that will enable
us to leverage the skills and capabilities of the great people we have
in the team to offer the best level of service to our customers.
Mark Barnewall was appointed to the role of Account Executive late in
2008 after gaining over 18 months experience as an Account Representative
alongside Telarus veteran Peter Jordan.
Initially joining us as a graduate recruit, Mark has shown significant
commitment within the Sales Team. His high standards and solid experience
working with Telarus Solutions Partners and Customers are serving him
well as he takes on his own portfolio of accounts.
James Hughes is the most recent addition to the Sales Team, having
joined Telarus in the role of Account Representative late last year. James
has hit the ground running and proven to be a very quick learner. Read
more about James in the team profile section of this newsletter.
