Telarus – the Switched On Telecommunications Company

Welcome to Switched On!

The first quarter of a year is always an interesting one that usually starts with well meaning resolutions, new budgets, new targets and a healthy dash of hope.

And as the months past, some resolutions fall on the wayside, some budgets get reprioritised and if you’re smiling while reading this, chances are you’ve met your Q1 targets! Congratulations!

So to ensure you keep smiling at the end of the financial year, you’ll be glad to hear that Telarus Business plans have just been re-priced to keep you smiling.

Those Telarus Business plans that have an excess data usage charge have just been reduced from 8 cents per meg to 5 cents per meg – a saving of 37.5 per cent.

For some businesses this could mean some pretty serious savings and it has all come down to finding efficiencies in our business, and passing the savings on to you.

It means you’ll save money in the long run, and is another reason that you should consider using Telarus for all of your data needs.

As many ACT residents will be aware, the government has been charging a utilities tax on water, gas and electricity since 2006. As telecommunications is now viewed as a utility, the tax is now being applied against all telecommunications network providers.

This tax takes the form of a uniform charge applied on a per-PSTN and ISDN line basis. You would have noticed that this has started coming through on your bills as of February as a separately itemised charge on your telecommunications accounts.

The ACT government has yet to give any justification about this new charge.

You’ve probably picked up from these newsletters that Telarus believes in what it sells and that we ‘eat our own dog food’. So, for a number of months now we’ve been using our VoIP over our wireless LAN with Nokia E61i handsets.

It’s a great experience to use your mobile phone as a defacto VoIP handset when you’re in the office. Imagine: A sales rep walks into the office, or perhaps even a branch office, with his or her mobile handset, it automatically connects to their wireless LAN and they start receiving calls from their extension on their mobile.

Such capabilities may allow you to avoid investing in separate fixed-line handsets for some staff and makes hot-desking a breeze. And with many people tending to make calls via their mobiles from their desks these days, the fact that outbound calls are switched via your phone system rather than the mobile network may offer significant savings.

Telarus can provide the necessary hardware, services and consulting to enable solutions like this, such that our customers take advantage of the productivity gains and cost savings they offer. Talk to your Telarus Account Executive or Solutions Engineer if you would like to know more.
